How to Buy Custom Made Bras

How do you know if you need a custom made bra? Custom made bras may have been a thing of the past, but even with today’s technology may not be required, especially if you have undergone a breast surgery that has modified the natural shape of your breasts. At AnaOno, our proprietary materials and custom fit is uniquely designed to mold and shape to you, instead of the other way around. It may be your easiest answer to spending loads of money on custom fit bras, unless of course you love sewing and designing your own bras that are just as unique as the one wearing them.

You May Not Need A Custom Made Bra?

If you are looking for a customized fit, look no further. The traditional underwire bra market is structured in ways that may make finding your perfect bra challenging, but that’s ok, because that is where we step in. Our founder and designer, Dana Donofree, shares that the number one question asked when describing AnaOno is, “Do you make all your bra’s custom?” And the simple answer is, No. After breast surgery, or even facing an alternative fit need, custom isn’t always necessary, but the way the bra is designed is. At AnaOno, we have no underwire bras, and bras without molded cups. What does that mean? Our collections give you that personalized fit  you need in a perfect bra, because our bra fits YOU, and not the other way around.

What To Look For In A Custom Bra?

If you find yourself searching and searching for the perfect fit and always coming up short, looking for a custom bra maker may be what is needed. Custom bras aren’t restricted by size ranges available in the underwear and bra market. That can range from bands that are less than 28 measurements, to even those over 50 band sizes. There is no limit to size range when you are working with a custom bra designer. Maybe you are challenged with cup size. Many bra manufactures leverage the overall market to create their size ranges and cup sizes, so you may find yourself looking for cup sizes larger than bands allow, or vice versa. If you can arrange a personal fitting with a bra specialist, they can help to point you in the right direction to ensure you receive the fit you desire in the fitting process.

What Do You Call A Bra Maker?

Most bra makers, when you can find one, will refer to themselves as a seamstress. Some may even say, an expert seamstress. This is because making bras may be one of the most complicated forms of the art in general, perfectly expressed by Bra Theory in this article on  Medium.com. A bra can have up to 48 components included, from hooks and eyes, to underwire, to padding, elastics, sliders, and much much more. Only an expert can manage all these moving parts and pieces to create something so beautifully delicate, like a piece of intimate apparel, your bra.

Can I Make My Own Custom Bra?

The great news, YES YOU CAN! And we love supporting your creative energy to make your own custom bra, and personalize the fit just to you. We recommend taking a look at our dear friend, Madalynne Intimates and snatching up a personalized  Do-It-Yourself bra kit - where you can customize your fit, cup size, and band size, to get not only the perfect fit, but your perfect bra that you made yourself!

Madalynne Bra Kit

"What I love most about making lingerie is that it puts the power in my hands. I have control over what I wear instead of a company or a brand. I get to choose colors, fabrics and styles as well as make adjustments to fit my body. I am not a standard size.

Madalynne's ready to made offers this to their customers. If a customer is a standard size, they can choose this when purchasing. If they are not a standard size, they can provide their measurements along with 'notes' about their bodies (example: broad back) and we cut a custom pattern for them. Everything is made in house by a small team of sewists who were trained by me." -  @Mmadalynne

To sum it all up, if you think you have ran out of options and you have no where to turn but a custom bra, look no further, AnaOno is here to support you and your body with designing for your different. But if you would like to have a little fun, and it give it a go to make your own, dust off that sewing machine, grab some lace and elastic, and have a blast! Just be sure to leave your feedback and picture in our comments to share with others!
